Kaukauna Captures Fourth Straight Team Wrestling State Title

Kaukauna won its fourth straight WIAA Division 1 state team wrestling championship on March 2 with a 36-27 win over Wisconsin Rapids in the championship match. The Ghosts finished the season with a 20-0 dual meet record.

Kaukauna recorded four pins in the title match from Andy DiPiazza at 106 pounds, Lucas Peters at 132 pounds, Colin DeGroot at 150 pounds and Liam Crook at 165 pounds. The Ghosts led 18-15 after eight matches and then won the next four to clinch the title.

Kaukauna finished 20-0 in dual matches for the season and reached the finals with a 49-17 win over Homestead in the quarterfinals and a 35-29 triumph over Menomonie in the semifinals. The Ghosts also won four straight titles from 2014-17, giving them eight team titles all-time, all under coach Jeff Matczak. It was the 30th state title in all sports in school history with 18 of those coming since 2014.

Wrestling Point Standings

The FVA wrestling champion is decided by a combination of dual meet and conference meet results. Each team receives 1.5 points for a dual meet victory and 1 point for each position finished at the conference meet (10 for first, 9 for second, 1 for 10th).
