The Fox Valley Association will limit competitions to only those involving conference opponents for the upcoming fall 2020 athletics season.
The conference plans to follow the practice start dates set by the WIAA Board of Control last week. Low-risk sports (boys/girls cross country, girls golf, girls tennis and girls swimming and diving) will begin practice on August 17 and high-risk sports (football, boys soccer and boys/girls volleyball) will begin practice on September 7.
At this point, conference meets are still planning to be held in girls golf, girls tennis and boys and girls cross country. The girls swimming and diving conference meet will not be held. The conference has not determined whether conference champions will be crowned in any sports. The girls volleyball Fall Classic and boys volleyball pool play events will not be held as scheduled, but may be conducted at the end of the season.
The earliest dates for the first competitions are August 20 for girls golf, August 21 for girls tennis, August 25 for cross country, and girls swimming and diving. The earliest permissible date for the first boys soccer, and boys and girls volleyball contests are September 15, and the first possible football game may be scheduled September 23.
All sports will attempt to follow their existing conference schedules as much as possible. Those sports with conference competitions prior to their earliest permissible date will have those competitions rescheduled for later in the fall. Football games prior to September 23 may be added to the end of the season if the WIAA playoffs are reduced or eliminated. Cross country is considering scheduling a series of dual meets for fall competitions prior to the conference meet. Football is the only sport that will be permitted to have a scrimmage with another opponent prior to the first competition.
All of these plans remain subject to change based on local school district and health department guidelines. The FVA will wait to make any announcement in regards to spectator guidelines until closer to the start of fall events.
These plans refer only to fall sports. Decisions regarding winter sports will be made at a later date.
