Kimberly extended its state-record winning streak to 70 straight games, while finishing 14-0 for the fifth consecutive season with a 27-7 win over Sun Prairie in the WIAA Division 1 state championship game on Nov. 17 in Madison.
The Papermakers trailed 7-0 in the game, but tied the game on a touchdown run by John Nett just before halftime. Quarterback Alec Rosner raced 50 yards for a score early in the second half to push the lead to 14-7 before D.J. Stewart added a pair of touchdowns. Stewart finished with 189 yards rushing on 34 carries.
It marks Kimberly's seventh state football title in the past 11 years and ties the Papermakers for the most all-time, matching Edgar, Lancaster, Stratford and St. Mary's Springs. In addition to the five straight crowns, Kimberly also won in 2007 and 2008.
Overall, the school has now won 28 state championships in all sports with 14 of those coming since 2007.
