Kaukauna Claims Third State Softball Title

Kaukauna gave the Fox Valley Association a 16th WIAA state softball championship with a 1-0 shutout of Sun Prairie on June 30 in Green Bay. Skyler Calmes pitched a four-hit shutout with two strikeouts and Khloe Hinkens drove in the game's only run with a fourth inning sacrifice fly.

The Ghosts finished 27-2 and won their last 20 games of the season. They reached the title game with a 3-2 win over Wilmot and an 11-1 rout over Burlington. It was the Ghosts' third state softball title, having also captured championships in 2010 and 2017.

Six different schools have combined for the FVA's 16 softball state titles with Hortonville also winning two titles before becoming an FVA member.

For Kaukauna, it marked the school's third state championship of the 2021-22 school year with titles also coming in girls cross country and wrestling. The school has now won 25 state championships, including 13 since 2014.
