Neenah Brings Home Second Straight Girls Cross Country State Title

Neenah's girls cross country team captured its second straight WIAA Division 1 state championship today with all seven runners placing among the top 36 individual finishers.

The Rockets totaled 71 team points to hold off second-place Slinger by 13 points. It was Neenah's fifth state title, having also won three straight from 1981-83 in addition to last year's title.

The FVA had three teams in the top 10 and five qualify for the state meet. Appleton North placed seventh to edge Hortonville by one place. Kimberly was 11th and Oshkosh West finished 18th.

Sam Zilm led the Rockets with a fourth place individual finish. Elsa Gruber placed 11th, Elsa Weiland was 19th, Izzy Malloy finished 26th, Maddie Schoonover placed 27th, Natalie Schultz finished 34th and Natalie Willes placed 36th.

For Neenah, it was the school's 39th state championship all-time. It was the sixth girls cross country title in FVA history with Kaukauna capturing the other in 2020.
