Neenah’s girls tennis team captured its second WIAA state team championship and finished off an undefeated season with a 4-3 win over Divine Savior Holy Angels on Oct. 23 in Madison.
The Rockets finished the season with a 20-0 record, while Divine Savior ended its season 22-3 with all three losses coming to Neenah. Neenah also won the state title in 2015 and was appearing in the state championship match for the sixth time in the past eight years.
Neenah’s two-time state champion doubles tandem of Sophia Paape and Shelby Roth had the clinching victory with a 6-1, 7-6 victory at No. 1. The Rockets swept all three doubles matches with Meghan Stielow and Nora Paape winning at No. 2 and Maddie Daharsh and Paige Stielow victorious at No. 3. Liz Risgaard added a win at No. 2 singles.
It was Neenah’s 36th state championship all-time in 14 different sports.
